Delta State Police Command has recovered 7,365 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs)
which were carted away by gunmen, who invaded the office of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area recently.About two weeks ago, gunmen invaded the INEC 0ffice, and stole about 600,000 PVC and some registers.
Detectives have arrested security guards attached to the office. They are Goddy,
Justice and Ejiro for interrogation. “The state Police Public Relations Officer
(PPRO), Celestisna Kalu, told Crime Watch Today that the stolen PVCs have been
recovered and a total of 7,365 cards were seen.”
Kalu said, the police “arrested one Aputu (46) of Oji Aputu Compound, Onyobulu Inland Market Road, Oghara and recovered one of the stolen INEC registers from him.
She said investigation was ongoing while efforts were being made to ensure that all
those involved in the crime were arrested. She said the PVCs have since been handed
over to INEC.”
Meanwhile, the police command is investigating two persons for a robbery in
Ugheli. The suspects were handed over to the police by youths from the Oviri Olomu in
Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the arrest, gave the names of the
suspects as Nicholas and Shelter. She told Crime Watch Today that when the
suspects were searched, one locally-made pistol was recovered from one of them.
Kalu commended the youths for arresting the suspects and quickly handing them
over to the police without resorting to jungle justice.
She assured the youths of police diligent investigation into the matter warning
criminals, especially armed robbers and kidnappers to leave the state or risk the
wrath of the force.
