Tragedy struck at the ever-busy Ojota, Lagos, when a truck veered off the Ojota-Maryland lane, hit a Mercedez Benz C-Class, and killed a five months pregnant staff of the Lagos Waste Management Agency (LAWMA), on Tuesday, April 29th, 2014.
The accident which occurred at about 2pm resulted in chaos and pandemonium as hordes of motorists and pedestrians surged to the scene to get a look at the deceased, but policemen quickly arrived, and fired shots into the air to disperse the crowd.
The truck, according to the elderly driver had a break failure, lost control and went over the culvert to the other side of the highway and crushed the pregnant LAWMA’s official on duty to death on the spot. Our correspondent gathered that the impact of the truck ruptured her pregnancy, and ripped her stomach, leaving her guts spilling out to the road. Other victims of the accident was a lady in the Mercedez Benz car. Though she escaped unhurt, the driver’s side of her car was badly damaged.
While the sprawling Ojota Road traffic was building up, relevant agencies swung into action to remove the corpse of the LAWMA staff and restore normalcy. The driver was later arrested by the police and whisked away to the Area ‘H’ Police Station, Ogudu, Ojota.
