Police Arraign 8 Guards Over Alleged N1m Cable Loss

Police in Abuja have arraigned eight security guards before an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court over alleged loss of a drum of armoured cable worth N1 million.

The accused, all of Kubwa, were charged for negligent conduct, an offence that contradicts
Section 196 of the Penal Code. The police prosecutor, Lukas Ephraim, told the court that the complainant, UchennaNwanze of Phase 4, reported at the Kubwa Police Station, on January 4, how he entrusted a drum of armoured cable valued at N1m to the accused, who he employed as security guards to safeguard his property.

He said the accused however failed to take proper
custody of the items, and as a result, they were
stolen.
When the charges were read to the accused, they
pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the
sum of N200,000 each by the judge, Mohammed
Marafa, with one reasonable surety, who must be
resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to February 24 for
hearing.
