A Raleigh woman and her husband were allegedly stabbed by the best man in their wedding, Jonathan Wayne Broyhill. Police
say Jameson “Jamie” Kirk Hahn, 29 and Nation Hahn, 27, were attacked
with a knife by Broyhill at their North Raleigh home, North Carolina on
Monday night. According to reports, he then turned the knife on himself.
Shortly before 2 AM on Wednesday, Jamie passed away while in intensive
care.
“Jamie lost her struggle to live this morning,” her family said in statement. “We lost a beautiful and loving wife, daughter and friend. We all lost a pure and brave spirit.”
“It is our fervent hope that an even larger community will be inspired now by the way she lived her life,” the family continued. “She dedicated her life and her work to the ideal that we were put on this earth to care for those who need an extra measure of care. She believed in justice, opportunity and fairness for all. She loved politics and she saw the Democratic Party as the path to realize her ideals.”
“She had a gift for bringing us together – black and white, young and old, gay and straight. She challenged us to work together for a better world,” her family said. “Her light will shine on in all of us who knew and loved her.”
Nation is said be recovering in the hospital and Broyhill also remains in stable condition.
Broyhill has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and will likely be charged with murder in Jamie’s death.
Missing money could be a possible motive for the stabbing, according to ABC. Broyhill was said to be the bookkeeper for Jamie Hahn’s business and some political campaigns.
A wedding announcement in a South Carolina newspaper listed Broyhill as the best man at the couple’s wedding in 2009.
