The gubernatorial candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress
(APC) in Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai on Friday said he had no
godfather other than the Almighty God and the people of the state who he
depends on to win the governorship election in February.
Addressing thousands of party stalwarts and supporters at a rally in
Saminaka, headquarters of Lere local government area of the state,
El-Rufai said he was seeking to become the governor of the state to
bring about development and improve the economic condition of the people
through transparent and judicial management of public resources.
“I don’t have a godfather; the Almighty God and the good people of our
dear state are the people I am looking up to. I will not be answerable
to a godfather but to God and the good people of our state. I am here to
seek your support and I thank you for your assurances and hospitality,”
the former FCT minister told the crowd.
He urged the people to be firm and insist on quality and transparent
leadership in the February elections, adding that he had good plans to
move Kaduna State to greater height.
“I have said my plans as contained in our manifesto, we are not
deceivers and sooth-Sayers, we mean what we are saying because we did it
in another capacity and we will do again if you give us the mandate” he
said.
El-Rufai also noted the challenges of obtaining the Permanent Voters
Card (PVC), and urged the people not to be discouraged, but endure
whatever it takes to get the card.
“We also heard your cry about voters’ card and the challenges. There is
also the issue of the plan to steal votes. We have heard about it.
People of this local government should not let that happen. One way to
ensure that this doesn’t happen is for you to get your voters card.
"During the election make sure you vote, but don’t fight with anyone.
Use your voters’ card to kick out the current incompetent administration
in the state out of power” he said.
Speaking in the same vein, the APC senatorial candidate in the zone,
Alhaji Sulaiman Hunkuyi, called on the people of the area to use their
votes wisely, saying this was the only way to peacefully throw out the
administration that had not paid off for them in the last 16 years.
“We entered this town to see an old primary school where prominent
people from this area had their education and we saw that the roof was
blown off. These are the evidences of the terrible times that the PDP
government has subjected the people to” Hunkuyi said.
